The Barbaresco 'Rio Sordo' represents the most emblematic label of the Piedmontese winery Cascina Bruciata, capable of delighting the senses with its elegance and complexity. The Additional Geographic Mention Rio Sordo is located on the southern slope of the municipality of Barbaresco and owes its name to the river that flows underground. Since 2016, it has been the Abbona family, already owners of the renowned winery Marchesi di Barolo, who have been leading Cascina Bruciata with a focus on environmental sustainability.
Cascina Bruciata Barbaresco 'Rio Sordo' is made from only Nebbiolo grapes cultivated within the homonymous cru using eco-sustainable practices. In particular, the vines grow on soils with a high content of limestone and sand located at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level, with excellent southwest exposure. After the harvest, the clusters are red vinified through fermentation in contact with the skins in stainless steel tanks, with complete malolactic fermentation. The subsequent aging process takes place in oak barrels of various capacities and lasts for at least 26 months before bottling and further resting in glass before the final release on the market.
Visually, the 'Rio Sordo' Cascina Bruciata Barbaresco displays a luminous garnet red hue with a ruby heart. The complex aromatic profile reveals scents of cherry, violet, and rose merging with balsamic hints, undergrowth, and deep spicy nuances. Warm and soft on the palate, elegant and balanced, characterized by a velvety tannic structure that anticipates a long-lasting finish. The considerable structure of this Barbaresco contributes to its excellent longevity, which can allow it to evolve harmoniously for more than a decade.
