PRIMITIVO ROSATO 'CORALLIUM' DE QUARTO 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Primitivo Rosato 'Corallium' from the family-run De Quarto winery is an interpretation of Primitivo 'in pink' that is appreciated for its flavoursome and refreshing bouquet. When considering the Italian rosé wine scene, one cannot but think of Apulia, the so-called 'land of rosés'. Suffice it to say that roughly 40% of all rosé wines produced in the Peninsula come from this region, which, thanks to this type of wine, is experiencing a period of progressive appreciation after decades in which it had been relegated to the role of 'cellar of Europe' due to the large production of blended grapes destined for wines from all over Europe. The name and the illustration on the label recall the red corals of the Mediterranean Sea.

De Quarto Primitivo Rosato 'Corallium' is made exclusively from Primitivo grapes grown on Apulian bush-trained vines on red soil, without pesticides or herbicides. Manual harvesting carried out in the second half of September, is followed by white vinification of the bunches with soft pressing and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. The subsequent maturing phase of a few months also takes place in stainless steel, and after a further brief rest in the bottle, the wine is ready for release.

The Rosato da Primitivo 'Corallium' from the De Quarto estate impresses with its intense coral-pink colour. Delicate and subtle hints of small red fruits such as raspberry and pomegranate distinguish the nose, adorned with fragrant perceptions of freshly picked flowers. In the mouth, it is harmonious and fine, with a lively freshness that combines with a pleasant savoury component in a balanced finish.
