BARBERA D'ASTI 'CIAPIN' ANDREA SCOVERO 2020 DESCRIPTION

The "Ciapin" Barbera d'Asti by Andrea Scovero winery is a fresh, intense, and fruity red wine produced in the Bionzo fraction of Costigliole d'Asti, in the province of Asti. It is made from pure Barbera grapes grown on gentle hills with excellent sun exposure at an altitude of about 300 meters. The vines, which range from 14 to 40 years old, are trained using the Guyot pruning method on soils characterized by clayey, sandy-limestone soils. The winery is a small family-run business, owner of about 6 hectares of vineyards, now in its third generation and managed by Andrea Scovero, a true wine craftsman with a reserved character who pursues a path marked by continuous research for maximum quality while respecting organic farming, with great ecological and environmental awareness.

The "Ciapin" Barbera d'Asti by Andrea Scovero is made with carefully selected grapes, harvested by hand in the first decade of September. Once the grapes reach the winery, they are gently destemmed and pressed before undergoing alcoholic fermentation, using only native yeasts, in stainless steel tanks with a skin maceration of about 25 days. The wine is then racked and pressed, and left to age in stainless steel containers until the following spring after the harvest, and then bottled without filtration and ready for sale.

The Barbera d'Asti "Ciapin" has a beautiful deep ruby red color with slight purple reflections. On the nose, there are intense aromas of ripe fruit and berries, including sour cherry, plum, blackberry, and raspberry, floral notes of red flowers, spicy hints of black pepper and licorice, and then hints of balsamic and earthy notes, including menthol. In the mouth, it is powerful, warm, juicy, and enveloping, characterized by a pleasant acidic backbone that gives freshness and a fine and well-integrated tannin. This wine from the Andrea Scovero winery is a rich and juicy red, energetic and articulated, produced with genuine craftsmanship.
