Cannonau "Moro" is one of those wines that, from sip to sip, has the magical ability to transport us inside the terroir of origin. Cannonau, one of Sardinia's most important indigenous grape varieties, is declined by the Mesa winery, a production reality located a few kilometres from the town of Carbonia, with an extremely territorial vision in which the sip is incisive and expressive, ample, capable of offering a beautiful aromatic cleanliness to the nose. A warm, flavorful bottle that can be uncorked even in 3-4 years to enjoy it in a more evolved version.
This "Moro" Cannonau comes from the grapes of the vine of the same name, used in purity by the Mesa winery. The vines of this great indigenous Sardinian red grape grow with the alberello and spurred cordon system in vineyards that sink their roots within sandy, calcareous and clay soils. Once the grapes are harvested and taken to the winemaking rooms, they macerate for at least 10 to 15 days, with periodic pumping over and punching down, fermenting alcoholically. Then comes the maturation phase, in which the wine rests for at least 6 months in both cement tanks and barriques; after bottling, there is a further 3-month maturation period directly in the glass.
Cannonau wine "Moro" announces itself in the glass with a ruby red colour, crossed by light reflections tending to violet on the rim. The nose is forthright and crisp, with enveloping sensations, starting from well-ripened red fruit and arriving up to more spicy touches and floral nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, round, and tasty, with a sip characterized by a vivid tannic texture. A Sardinian red made by the Mesa winery from which all the beauty and enological potential of the lower Sulcis emerges.
