Sigurd's 'RAG' is a red wine that pays homage to Ralph Allen Graham, the father of the winery founder Dan. It is a fresh, lively wine made from Syrah and Viognier, fermented together in the northern Rhone style, with a touch of Mataro to give depth. The nose expresses spices, fresh berries and apricot blossoms, while the Mataro adds spicy notes. In the mouth, the tannins are silky and refined, the sip is juicy and fresh. An excellent red that can also be drunk chilled in summer
Australian winemaker Dan Graham of the Sigurd winery presents the Red 'RAG', a lively and playful expression, the same as Ralph Allen Graham, Dan's late father to whom the winemaker wanted to dedicate the label. A wine producer originally from the Yenda wine-growing area of New South Wales, Ralph passed on his passion for wine to his son Daniel. Although his family originated in New South Wales, Dan then decided to embark on an adventure of his own in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, which is one of the continent's most prestigious wine regions.
Sigurd Rosso 'RAG' originates from a blend of Syrah, Viognier and Mataro, the first two varieties coming from the Barmera area while Mataro, another name for Mourvèdre, grown just north of Barossa, in Ebenezer. The Syrah and Viognier are co-fermented with 7 days of pellicular maceration together with 13% Viognier. The fermentation process takes place in open stainless steel vats while the subsequent 9-month maturation phase takes place in a combination of French oak barrels of varying capacities. Before final bottling, a small percentage of wine from Mataro grapes harvested slightly earlier is then added.
Sigurd's 'RAG' Rosso has a deep, intense ruby red colour. On the nose, lively hints of black fruits such as blackberry and blueberry alternate with sweet nuances of Christmas spices. The taste shows surprising gracefulness and juicy freshness, as well as soft tannins accompanying the drinkable finish. Winemaker Dan Graham himself suggests serving his 'RAG' Rosso at a cool temperature, accompanied by a tasty mortadella flatbread.
