La Barbera di Principiano is a red wine made from forty-plus-year-old vines located 300 meters above sea level. With hints of underbrush and wild fruit, floral notes and mineral gusts on the nose. Soft on the palate, savory and supported by good freshness
Principiano's Barbera d'Alba is a red wine rooted in the winery's memory. In fact, Ferdinando's father made the planting now more than forty years ago in the very main vineyard belonging to the winery: Boscareto. A natural amphitheatre exposed to the sun, well ventilated but sheltered. Not only rows of Nebbiolo but also of Barbera, a versatile grape variety and harbinger of pleasant emotions. Last word on the name: the wine is dedicated to Ferdinand's eldest daughter.
The vineyards are located at 300 meters above sea level and have a perfect southwest exposure, the management in the vineyard does not involve the use of no chemical compounds, but neither does it involve any organic fertilizer, only copper and sulfur when necessary. Being as little as possible to let the vine express itself at its best, in balance with its environment and the microorganisms that inhabit it. Low yields in the vineyard, selection of clusters that present a homogeneous degree of ripeness. The fermentation takes place spontaneously, without yeast inoculation, in steel, and maceration lasts 20 days with manual pumping over and minimal punching down. No filtration or clarification. The refinement takes place for a period of 10 months in steel tanks. Once bottled, the wine has a minimal amount of sulfur.
Barbera d'Alba is ruby red in colour. The nose is fruity, with hints of underbrush with its small wild fruits, floral, rose and violet; in the finish, there is a mineral note almost territorial. It is soft on the palate and feels fresh and savoury, with almost crushing fruit and convincing drinkability. Excellent execution!
