Barolo 'Francia' Magnum Giacomo Conterno 2018

The Barolo "Francia" Magnum by Conterno is a great wine from Piedmont: a majestic expression of the Francia vineyard located in the commune of Serralunga. Traditional vinification and a 48-month maturation in large barrels result in an austere, soft and very structured wine with intense aromas of red fruit, underbrush, leather and sweet spices. In Magnum format, the extreme synthesis of the perfect wine!

BAROLO 'FRANCIA' MAGNUM GIACOMO CONTERNO 2018 DESCRIPTION

Giacomo Conterno's Barolo Magnum "Francia" is one of the 'big' wines, one of those in front of which one takes off one's hat and raises applause. Fineness, complexity, austerity, thickness and elegance weave the fabric of this red, vocated by its origin to nobility. In fact, it is no coincidence that Barolo is known worldwide for being 'the King of wines and the wine of Kings'. In tasting expressions such as that of Giacomo Conterno, one cannot help but agree with the men who coined this epithet.

Giacomo Conterno Barolo "Francia" originates from the vineyard of the same name, located south of Serralunga d'Alba. Historically, Barolos come from this area of the appellation that plays their characteristics on power, strength and body. They are Barolos of structure and complexity, loaded with expressive intensity but always dedicated to finesse and class that distinguishes them. The ancient Francia vineyard has an extension of 14 hectares, dominated by soil with a predominantly limestone composition. The harvest is preceded by careful selection implemented as early as the pruning stage, which allows only one bunch to be left per shoot. Once brought to the winery, the grapes are softly pressed, and the must obtained undergoes long macerations lasting up to 30 days. The fermentation phase takes place inside toast-free Austrian wood vats. It is then sent for ageing, inside oak barrels of various sizes, for a period of 48 months. A final rest in the bottle makes it ready for marketing.

"Francia" Barolo di Giacomo Conterno presents a ruby red colour, veering toward garnet tones. Its bouquet heralds a complexity to be discovered: cherry, small berries, liquorice, menthol notes, toasted and a hint of leather. In the mouth, it asserts a decisive and powerful character, perfectly managed in a comely charm. The persistence is almost infinite, as is its perspective over time. There is only to be guided into the depths of the goblet. To be tried in Magnum format to best appreciate all its nuances.
