Tenuta Sant'Antonio's Amarone "Selezione Antonio Castagnedi" is born between Soave and Valpolicella, lands that have always been suited to the cultivation of vines and home to numerous excellent DOCGs and DOCs. The winery has been family-owned since 1989, when the four Castagnedi brothers decided to buy a small property in the Gabri Mountains, beginning to lay the foundations for what is now a full-fledged agricultural business, known for the quality of its products even by the foreign market. 1995 was the year the first vintage was put on the market, and five years later, the exterior and interior architecture of the winery was remodelled, keeping intact the historic barrel cellar, still used for ageing. With the turn of 2010, a project aimed at researching sustainable and environmentally friendly growing methods was implemented, switching to an entirely organic growing regime. After 34 years, today, this activity is considered one of the certainties of the Veneto wine scene.
The vineyards of Tenuta Sant'Antonio's Amarone "Selezione Antonio Castagnedi" are located in the municipality of Mezzane di Sotto, at Monte Gabri. The soil here is sandy, silty and with plenty of skeleton and white limestone for wines with a structured and elegant character. The vines are between 20 and 25 years old and maintain low but exceptional yields respecting their natural stages of growth and development. The climate is characterized by hot, sultry summers and harsh winters often affected by snowfall. Grapes are harvested manually in plateaux with a selection of the best bunches. In the winery, soft pressing occurs and alcoholic fermentation in steel with selected yeasts for 25 days; malolactic fermentation and batonnage once a week follows for the first year. It is aged in tonneaux for 2 years.
The colour of Tenuta Sant'Antonio's Amarone "Selezione Antonio Castagnedi" is an intense ruby red with purple highlights. The bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of ripe red-fleshed fruit and aromas of spices such as liquorice, black pepper and chocolate beans; on the palate, it is balanced, heady and enveloping, with an elegance of tannins that entices glass after glass. In pairing, it is excellent with pasta dishes topped with black and white truffles, stewed red meats and game; also perfect with aged cow's and sheep's milk cheeses. Excellent for the table of important occasions to enjoy the excellence of a traditional regional product, savouring its most authentic flavours.
