Amarone Classico Riserva 'Costasera' Masi 2017

Masi's Amarone Classico Riserva "Costasera" is a red wine that well represents the Valpolicella area. Aged for 40 months in oak barrels, it expresses on the nose sensations of jammy red fruit, shading towards nuances of roasted coffee and spices. The palate is structured and intense, with crisp fruit, long and velvety tannin

AMARONE CLASSICO RISERVA 'COSTASERA' MASI 2017 DESCRIPTION

Amarone Classico Riserva "Costasera" is the expressive and qualitative summit of Masi Amarone. It is, in fact, the most aristocratic version of the Classico "Costasera," defined as the 'thoroughbred' red in the Masi house. This wine comes from the hills facing the sunset, inhabited by the rows of vineyards that look out over Lake Garda and absorb all its savory and fresh essence. From these vineyards come the best grapes, densely packed with territoriality and endowed with a peculiar finesse.

"Costasera" Amarone Classico Riserva is made from a blend that breaks down to 70% Corvina varietal grapes, 15% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and 5% Molinara. The grapes come from vineyards located near the areas of Marano, Negrar, Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano, defined by loose red soils rich in limestone and compact red soils with abundant basalts. The proximity to Lake Garda enhances light radiation and modulates climatic trends bringing the mildness typical of lake areas. Harvesting, carried out manually, includes an activity of bunch selection. After being harvested, these are left to dry for about 120 days in the winery's ancient fruit lofts. Vinification takes place with the traditional stages of maceration and fermentation and ends with an aging period of about 40 months inside Slavonian and Allier oak barrels.

Masi Costasera Riserva shows a ruby red color of great depth and density. The nose manifests a variegated bouquet that refers to toasted and fruit scents, articulating in notes of cherry, cooked plum and freshly roasted coffee. The taste confirms the fruity imprint, complemented by a vein reminiscent of cocoa; the body is dense and structured, finished by a nice freshness and very silky tannins. Like the sun setting on these vineyards, the Costasera can fittingly end a busy day.
