J.H Quenardel is a family-run Champagne House based in Ludes, a Premier Cru village situated at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, a renowned region for sparkling wines. The origins of this sparkling wine house date back to 1906 when Henri Quenardel, the grandfather of the current owner, also named Henri Quenardel, decided to produce and market the first bottles of Champagne using grapes harvested from their own vineyards. In the 1930s, Henri was joined by his son Jean, while the second Henri entered the family estate in the 1970s. Through the various generational transitions, the winery has expanded its production volumes and modernized its production techniques and equipment while maintaining the familial character that has distinguished it for over 100 years. Today, Henri is supported by his son Jean-Charles, who represents the fourth winemaking generation of the family, dedicated to continuing the prestigious winemaking history of the Quenardels.
Within its 18 hectares of vineyards, adopting an environmentally respectful approach as evidenced by the “Viticulture Durable en Champagne – VDC” and “Haute Valeur Environnementale – HVE” certifications, Maison J.H Quenardel cultivates the classic Champagne varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The vineyards are grassed over, thus excluding the use of herbicides, while grape yields are limited to favor production quality. The base wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks, with the subsequent refermentation taking place in the bottle according to the esteemed Méthode Champenoise, associated with long aging on the lees that can sometimes exceed 60 months. The final dosages are quite varied, ranging from Extra Brut to Demi-Sec.
Among the most prestigious labels from J.H Quenardel is the Champagne Brut ‘Blason d’Or’ Millesime, a sparkling wine with a complex yet balanced character of great refinement. However, the quality of the entire selection is remarkable, composed of Champagnes with a rather classic and fine style, available in various formats.
