BIANCO 'VOLCANO' MONTEROSSO 2021 DESCRIPTION

The 'Volcano' White from the small Monterosso estate on Mount Etna is a pure Carricante that is appreciated for its lively mineral thrust. The vines are cultivated according to the traditional Etna bush vine system, an ancient form of cultivation consisting of a low bush vine supported by a chestnut wood pole that allows the plant to better withstand the strong winds that often sweep this volcanic land. Bush vine cultivation induces less vigor in the vines and therefore a more limited production, compensated by greater concentration and quality of the grapes.

Monterosso White 'Volcano' is produced solely from Carricante grapes from vines over 70 years old grown in the Etna bush vine system. In particular, the vines are rooted in volcanic soils at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level with southeast exposure. Agronomic management follows the principles of organic farming, with treatments limited to the use of copper and sulfur only, while harvesting is strictly done by hand. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation is entrusted to indigenous yeasts and takes place in stainless steel tanks, the same containers where the wine matures for several months until bottling and further resting in glass.

The 'Volcano' White from the Monterosso winery has a bright straw yellow hue. The olfactory range is defined by hints of lemon zest, summer fruit, and white flowers that blend with pleasant herbal notes, all complemented by a strong mineral stamp halfway between maritime and smoky. The taste development is very fresh and savory, at the same time excellent in richness and complexity, with a persistent citrusy and mineral finish that recalls the sensations perceived on the nose.
