"Castello di Brolio" is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, the child of the most careful and rigid selection of the best grapes Sangiovese, Cabernet and Petit Verdot. The author of this wine is the Ricasoli 1141 winery, recognized as one of the oldest in Italy, as well as the largest currently in the Chianti Classico area. Of Chianti, Bettino Ricasoli was also the great renewer, conceiving and defining its composition and production. Today the winery is led by Francesco Ricasoli, Bettino's great-grandson, and has an estate of 1,200 hectares, of which 235 are vineyards. Experimentation and innovation are solid tenets of the winery, as is the mission to excellence and the valorization of the territory. Especially on the latter, the winery has focused heavily, putting itself at the service of a multifaceted terroir that is faithfully illustrated in the wines.
Chianti Classico "Castello di Brolio" is made from 90% Sangiovese grapes, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The vineyards of origin are located at altitudes between 250 and 450 meters above sea level, with southwest exposure. Even at harvest, the selection made on the bunches is very tight, so much so that, from year to year, it is easy for the quantity of production to vary. What does not descend, however, is quality, a fundamental prerogative of Castello di Brolio. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks for about fifteen days. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in the same container. Ageing is about 21 months in French barriques and tonneaux.
The Grand Selection of Chianti Classico "Castello di Brolio" is an intense wine in colour, taste-olfactory profile and personality. It attracts the eye with its deep ruby red hue and opens, on the nose, in a complex bouquet. At first, flowers and ripe red fruit emerge pleasantly from the glass, followed by sweet spices and toasted scents. In the mouth, it presents a full structure and silky tannins. It maintains its elegant character with a long and pleasant persistence. Barone Ricasoli is a winery that, like the musts in October, is in constant ferment: creating new labels and constantly perfecting historical ones. Each wine, in each vintage, is thus a new chapter that goes on to continue Italy's oldest winemaking history.
