Classic Method Sparkling Riesling Brut Griesel & Compagnie 2020

Griesel & Compagnie's Classic Method Riesling Brut is a 'Sekt,' or sparkling wine from Germany, which is very identifiable: in fact, the indigenous Riesling grape is sparkled. After months of aging and malolactic fermentation, the base wine matures almost 2 years in the bottle. This is an airy wine of great freshness and intensity. The nose surprises with mineral hints that meet hints of pastry. The sip has a crisp and energetic, almost electric verve, perfect paired with savory dishes such as some cured meats

CLASSIC METHOD SPARKLING RIESLING BRUT GRIESEL & COMPAGNIE 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Brut Riesling Metodo Classico Sparkling Wine from the German sparkling wine producer Griesel & Compagnie is characterized as a taut and vibrant bubbly produced in the small wine region of Hessische Bergstraße. Thanks to its high acidity, slender structure, and ability to convey the mineral character of the soils where it is cultivated, Rhine Riesling is exceptionally well-suited for sparkling winemaking, a practice that is increasingly popular in Germany.

The Griesel & Compagnie Brut Metodo Classico Sparkling Riesling is crafted from only Rhine Riesling grapes grown sustainably on granitic soils. After manual harvesting, the bunches are gently pressed whole, with the resulting must undergoing spontaneous alcoholic fermentation between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. To the vintage wine, 10% of perpetual reserve wine is added, with the resulting sparkling base undergoing refermentation in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico, a process associated with about 20 months of aging on the lees before disgorging and final dosage at 3 g/l of residual sugars. The entire process excludes the use of clarification and filtration operations.

The Brut Metodo Classico Sparkling Riesling from Griesel & Compagnie exhibits a straw yellow hue with greenish highlights and abundant effervescence. On the nose, fresh notes of green apple and citrus like lemon peel and pulp are perceived, complemented by hints of wet stone and pastry. On the palate, the pronounced freshness is confirmed, along with tasty sapidity and airy, elegant bubbles, describing a lively progression. It is a sparkling version of Riesling with great energy and excellent longevity.
