Palari Winery's Faro is a Sicilian red wine of great elegance and finesse, captivating in its intensity and complexity. It is one of the island's most interesting excellences and comes from the very eastern tip of Sicily, overlooking the Strait of Messina. It is the wine of Scylla and Charybdis, made from the classic grape varieties of the area, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera and small percentages of other local grapes. The long ageing process in barriques allows the wine to evolve and enrich itself with refined aromatic facets, which makes it particularly fascinating. The aromas of great finesse are followed by a deep, long and dense sip of a thousand aromatic nuances.
Faro wine represents a small production within the territory of Sicily, but it has been able to establish itself to the attention of wine enthusiasts and wine critics, mainly thanks to the efforts of the Palari winery, which in the late 1980s revitalized this historic appellation. The estate is located in Contrada Palari, near Santo Stefano Briga, south of the city of Messina. The old bush-trained vines are grown very close to the sea on steep terraces made up of mostly sandy soils. The climate mitigated by the breezes of the Strait is always very windy and allows the red grapes to ripen perfectly. Thus are born reds of extraordinary charm, which know how to combine the Mediterranean warmth of the Sicilian land with the refined elegance of noble grape varieties.
Sicilian winery Palari's Faro red wine comes from scenic vineyards located on the coast of Messina, overlooking the waters of the Strait. It is in this warm and windy terroir that high-quality grapes ripen. At the end of the classic red vinification with maceration on the skins, the wine matures for 18 months in new Tronçais and Allier barriques and completes ageing with another 18 months in the bottle. In the glass, it has a ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. The bouquet recalls nuances of violets, aromas of currants, small red berries, slightly spicy notes, hints of underbrush and mineral hints of graphite. The palate has a good body with dense and elegant tannins, an aromatically very complex centre of the mouth and a smooth, long and persistent finish. The finish is fresh and slightly spicy. This is a label produced in a limited number of bottles, always sought after by connoisseurs of great reds.
