FLEURIE VIELLES VIGNES CHÂTEAU DES MORIERS 2018 DESCRIPTION

Chateau des Moriers' Fleurie Vieilles Vignes is a Gamay with a fragrant fruity and floral aromatic profile that faithfully expresses the characteristics of the Fleurie terroir, one of the most prestigious crus of the Beaujolais. Indeed, the French term 'fleurie', a name derived from the commune of the same name located in the north-central part of the area, means 'floral', referring precisely to the seductive and refined floral aromas that usually characterise these wines. The area's winemaking history dates back to Roman times, while the AOC was established in 1936.

Chateau des Moriers Fleurie Vieilles Vignes is made exclusively from Gamay grapes from the oldest vineyards on the estate, which are over 65 years old. The vines, grown according to organic farming principles, rest on granitic soils, rich in mineral elements and poor in organic substance. Following the harvest, the grapes are taken to the cellar and vinified the whole cluster with semi-carbonic maceration. The subsequent ageing phase lasts 10 months and takes place in 400-litre wooden barrels with several passages.

In the glass, the Gamay Vieilles Vignes Fleurie from the Burgundian Chateau des Moriers shows a deep ruby red colour. The olfactory panorama evokes fruity and floral aromas of cherries in spirit, blackberry, raspberry, iris and violet, combined with subtle spicy nuances. The taste is intense and juicy, full and enveloping, with pleasant freshness and fine tannins that anticipate good persistence on the palate. This is an excellent Fleurie to enjoy in its youth to appreciate its fruity and floral character; also capable of sustaining several years of further ageing, during which the wine will enrich its spicy profile.
