HIERÀ ROSSO HAUNER 2021 DESCRIPTION

Wine can sometimes be born from the most unpredictable situations, the result of chance or, for those who believe in it, destiny. In the late 1960s, Carlo Hauner, after the usual summer vacation spent in the Aeolian Islands, began to think about moving to these areas, radically changing his life. Salina strikes him more than all the other islands, and so the painter-designer decides to become a winemaker, giving birth to a production reality, Hauner, which over the decades has contributed to the rebirth of Sicilian wine with identical and original products, just like this Hierà: a bright and elegant red, which Carlo dedicates to the inventor and scientist James Stevenson, the first to plant vineyards in Salina in the 19th century.

This Hierà is a red that is made by Hauner from a major base of Nero d'Avola, 60 percent, to which is added a percentage of Alicante and a dash of Nocera. The grapes, carefully selected to ensure only the best of the terroir of origin, macerate and ferment in steel, where they are then left to age for 12 months; this is followed by a rapid passage in barrique, which precedes the bottling stages.

The Rosso Hierà produced by the Hauner winery takes on a full, intense colour in the glass, reminiscent of ruby. The aromas that develop on the nose bring back small red fruits of the underbrush, with more incisive notes recalling tobacco, sweet spices and iodine fumes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a balance that makes for a pleasant sip, a characteristic also fueled by a finely integrated tannin; it ends with a finish marked by a savoury aftertaste. A bottle that revives the pioneering spirit of James Stevenson and will leave you with an excellent memory in your heart when finished.
