Argiolas' Carignano del Sulcis Riserva 'Is Solinas' originates in the south-western area of Sardinia. It is in this area that this ancient vine, which is widespread in Spain and the south of France, has found the ideal habitat to produce great wines. The poor and loose soils, located by the sea, help to naturally contain the yields, concentrating intense and rich aromas in a few bunches. The long ageing in wood softens its youthful edges, giving a harmonious and intense taste experience. At the table it goes very well with grilled meats or spit-roasted game.
"Is Solinas" is a Carignano del Sulcis Riserva from Argiolas, one of Sardinia's most famous wineries. It is located near Serdiana, in the hilly hinterland of Cagliari, in an area particularly suited for viticulture, thanks to a climate mitigated by sea breezes. The vines are cultivated using the traditional alberello method, on sandy soils with the presence of limestone and clay. The wine comes from a blend with a majority percentage of Carignano, supplemented by a small balance of Bovale. Harvesting is done manually and the best grapes are sent for fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for a dozen days. The wine is then transferred to cement tanks for malolactic fermentation and matures for about a year in French oak barrels.
The red wine 'Is Solinas', from the Sardinian Argiolas winery, is a Carignano del Sulcis Riserva of great territorial typicality, authentically reflecting the character of the Sulcis region. It is a beautiful, luminous ruby red with faint garnet-coloured highlights. Intense and elegant, it expresses on the nose aromas of small dark berry fruits, hints of blueberry jam, notes of myrtle, aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean maquis, liquorice root and delicate spicy sensations. Well-structured and with a dense but evolved tannic weave, it offers a sip of rich, ripe fruit, which accompanies a balsamic, fresh and persistent finish.
