LAGREIN RISERVA 'ABTEI MURI' MURI-GRIES 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Lagrein Riserva "Abtei Muri" produced by the Muri-Gries winery represents the symbolic wine of South Tyrolean viticulture. It is, in fact, a benchmark for Lagrein, a wine strongly linked to local winemaking tradition and history. At the Muri-Gries winery, located at an old convent in Bolzano, every process is carried out with full respect for the environment and its sustainability. Defence methods are used following the system of integrated pest management, and any use of fertilizers is, on the contrary, abolished. What results from this way of working, which can also be extended to the approach in the cellar, are bottles of extreme territorial and varietal expressiveness.

"Abtei Muri" from Muri-Gries is composed entirely of Lagrein varietal grapes from vineyards located near Bolzano and its surroundings. In this area, the grapes are affected by the surrounding alpine relief, which then results in a particular freshness profile of the grapes. Following the harvest, the clusters are pressed, and the must is obtained. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation and, finally, a maturation period of around 18 months inside 40 percent new oak barriques.

The Lagrein Reserve "Abtei Muri" from Muri-Gries shows a very intense and brilliant ruby red colour. The nose shows a bouquet that plays on a complexity made up of countless tints. Fruity imprints of cherry, blueberry and jammy plum are recognizable, as well as a spicy stamp of nutmeg and pink pepper, grafted onto a texture of toasted notes reminiscent of chocolate and coffee, with a slight herbaceous trail on the finish reminiscent of alpine vegetation. On the palate, it asserts itself for its finesse, chiselled in a refined way with silky tannins and a smooth sip. It shows the freshness that betrays its origin, thus endowing itself with great balance. It closes in a finish with a vegetal aftertaste and beautiful persistence. An excellent wine on all occasions.
