Zidarich's Malvasia is an iconic white from the Karst, a crystalline expression of one of the most talented producers in the world of artisanal wine. Beniamino Zidarich's name is one that would need no introduction, thanks to the respect established through years of relentless work and bottles that continue to make wine lovers dream. Starting out with only half a hectare of vineyard, Beniamino has embarked on a path of steady growth, reaching the current 8 hectares planted with vines dedicated to local varieties such as Vitovska, Terrano and Malvasia, flanked by varieties that have now become an integral part of the Friulian ampelography such as Sauvignon and Merlot. No manipulation or shortcuts, adopting the convinced choice not to use chemicals, herbicides or pesticides in the vineyard and continuing with the same respect during vinification. The result is expressive and vital liquids, yet characterized by a timbre where elegance and drinkability are privileged by Beniamino's delicate hand. In the gotha.
Malvasia Zidarich is a pure expression of Malvasia Istriana, a particular biotype that characterizes the Karst area. The vineyards, located near Prepotto, and are cultivated with extremely low yields, making use of only a little copper and sulfur. In the winery, just as much care is taken, with spontaneous fermentations and maceration on the skins even in the case of the white wines. The liquids age for 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels, without undergoing clarification or filtration.
Zidarich's signature Malvasia Istriana presents itself in the glass with an intended golden guise edged with amber highlights. The nose is emblematic for how it manages to combine a heady aromatic profile of peach, sage, aromatic herbs, and mineral puffs, with a finesse that is truly outstanding. The sip is no less, and the contribution of maceration on the skins while tangible is never overpowering, so much so that the liquid always maintains an irresistible, flowing and sinuous drinkability. Masterful.
