MILLE E UNA NOTTE DONNAFUGATA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Donnafugata's Mille e una Notte is a persuasive and fascinating expression of one of the most important wineries in Italy. Defined by the winery itself as the "flagship red", it has been able to distinguish itself in the Sicilian wine scene by virtue of its constant level of quality, which has contributed not only to the achievement of numerous awards, but also to the promotion of a land extremely suitable for wine production.

Mille e una Notte was born from the dream of Giacomo and Gabriella, the founders of Donnafugata, to create a great Sicilian red wine, with the collaboration of Giacomo Tachis, the famous oenologist who had already created Italian wine monuments such as Sassicaia, Solaia and Tignanello. The idea is to enhance the native Sicilian grape par excellence, namely Nero d'Avola, and to combine it with international varieties such as Petit Verdot and Syrah that can enrich the wine with spicy and elegant nuances. Production follows traditional processes ranging from low yields per hectare to manual harvesting, which then involves careful selection of the best bunches. After fermentation, it is aged in new French oak barriques for 13-14 months.

Mille e una Notte presents itself in the glass with an impenetrable ruby red colour. Right from the first smell, it reveals all its richness, ranging from extremely territorial hints, such as plum and carob, to balsamic and spicy nuances. On the palate, it strikes with its caressing tactility, a combination of softness and very fine tannins. Its very long persistence requires structured foods such as lamb loin, first courses with meat sauces and even fish stews. An icon of class and elegance, Mille e una Notte is the perfect companion for special evenings.
