MONTEJ ROSSO VILLA SPARINA 2022 DESCRIPTION

The 'Montej' Rosso from the Piedmontese Villa Sparina estate is a Barbera del Monferrato with an intense and lively flavour, a character that is enhanced by the stainless steel processing. The vineyards that give rise to this bottle are located in the Rivalta plot, a 9-hectare cru located in Rivalta Bormida, in the hills of Acqui Terme, in the Alto Monferrato. In this area, Barbera reaches some of its highest quality expressions, different from its counterpart in Asti or Alba, usually characterised by a greater structure and fuller body. In Monferrato, Barbera-based wines are instead more aromatic and balanced, with acidity always in evidence even in the hottest vintages.

Villa Sparina Rosso 'Montej' is a pure Barbera from grapes harvested at full ripeness in vineyards planted on predominantly clayey soils in the Acqui Terme area. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is left to mature for 4-6 months partly in steel and partly in oak barriques, seeking the right balance between the softness provided by the wood and the vivacity enhanced by the steel.

Villa Sparina's Barbera 'Montej' Rosso expresses a bright ruby red colour. The nose reveals vivid fruity scents reminiscent of cherry, raspberry and blackberry, associated with nuances of vanilla, eucalyptus, pepper and precious woods due to the brief passage in oak. Intense and rounded on the palate, well supported by lively freshness and a soft tannic texture, with a fruity finish of good persistence and tasty pleasantness.
