NEGROAMARO DEL SALENTO 'COSIMO VARVAGLIONE' VARVAGLIONE 2020 DESCRIPTION

Negroamaro del Salento Collezione Privata 'Cosimo Varvaglione' is a highly prestigious label that testifies to the bond between the Varvaglione family, at the helm of the winery of the same name, and their land. The winery can boast over a century of winemaking history, having been founded back in 1921 in Leporano, in the province of Taranto. Over time, four generations of the Varvaglione family have succeeded one another, with the property now led by Cosimo together with his wife Maria Teresa and children Marzia, Angelo and Francesca. Among the foundations that guide the family's production philosophy are the meticulous care of the winemaking processes, during which state-of-the-art technology is used, and environmental sustainability, an increasingly important value for the Varvaglione family.

Cosimo Varvaglione's Collezione Privata 'Cosimo Varvaglione' Negroamaro del Salento Varvaglione is a 100% Negroamaro from old vineyards cultivated within the province of Taranto. Once picked, the grapes are transported to the cellar, where they are mellowed in stainless steel tanks, containers in which alcoholic fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature of between 24 and 26 °C. Malolactic fermentation also follows, at the end of which the wine is racked into French oak barrels and American oak tonneaux for ageing for at least 6 months before final bottling.

Negroamaro del Salento Varvaglione Collezione Privata 'Cosimo Varvaglione' has an intense ruby red colour with purple highlights. The generous olfactory mosaic is composed of vivid fruity scents of cherry and deep spicy aromas of pepper and cinnamon, enriched by notes of tobacco and liquorice on the finish. The taste is very warm and savoury, concentrated but balanced, with a velvety tannic texture that gives way to a persistent balsamic finish.
