LECINARO DEL FRUSINATE 'PALMIERI' DS BIO 2021 DESCRIPTION

"Palmieri" from the DS Bio winery represents the pure expression of a grape that is absolutely typical of this part of inland Latium: the Lecinaro is a blackberry variety saved from extinction precisely thanks to the tenacious work of the farmers in these mountains. Danilo Scenna, the young founder of the estate, shows what it means to have the courage to venture on new paths and allows the enthusiast to measure himself against something truly surprising and, at the same time, profoundly ancient.

'Palmieri' is the Lecinaro del Frusinate made by DS Bio from the youngest plants on the estate: these are vines planted in 2016 in one of the 12 plots in which the small estate spread over just under 3 hectares is pulverised. The terrain is rugged, located at an altitude of around 630 metres above sea level, with very varied inclinations and exposures, from which it is necessary to choose very carefully which plot to work. The soil of this vineyard is loose draining, with soil with peculiar presence of limestone and on which the vines, bred following the dictates of the biodynamic regime, dwell with a planting density of 3,500 vines per hectare. Harvesting is carried out by hand, while only steel containers are used for vinification: spontaneous fermentation by indigenous yeasts is accompanied by maceration on the skins for the entire 20 days. After racking, the red wine matures for a few months in steel vats before bottling, which is carried out without filtering or clarification.

The appearance of DS Bio's Lecinaro del Frusinate 'Palmieri' is a striking pale red with youthful violet highlights. The aromas are intense and inviting, with dark notes of violet and morello cherry, a touch of ripe plum, accompanied by spicy hints of a certain oriental-like complexity. On the palate, it is juicy, with fruity hints and a lively freshness, and at the same time elegant, with soft hints and a lingering finish. A red that is a sure interpretation of the territory and that we can pair with free-range roast chicken and medium-aged cheeses.
