PINOT NERO MUSSO 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Pinot Noir of the Piedmont winemaking reality Musso is a red wine that makes smoothness and easy drinking its salient features, typical of this noble vine of Burgundian origin. It seems that the introduction of Pinot Noir in Piedmont dates as far back as the 18th century, a time when the region's strong relations with France led to the spread of allochthonous varieties, including precisely Pinot Noir. It was then the well-known oenologist Louis Odart, in the 1800s, who gave an impetus to the cultivation of this variety by noting that, despite the very different environmental and cultural conditions between those in Piedmont and those in Burgundy, the wine retained distinctive characteristics.

Musso Pinot Noir originates from only Pinot Noir grapes grown on soils of strong limestone matrix characterized by the presence of layers of clay. The vines also benefit from the altitude of 220 meters above sea level and excellent southwest exposure. Manual harvesting is followed by the alcoholic fermentation of the must at a controlled temperature accompanied by dèlestage, an extraction technique that consists of temporarily separating the liquid part from the pomace cap once it has formed, and then returning the fermenting must to the tank with the solid part. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is placed in 25-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for the one-year maturation that precedes bottling.

On visual inspection, Musso's Pinot Noir shows a ruby red color with garnet highlights. Broad and perfumed on the nose, defined by hints of red fruits and fresh floral memories that alternate with darker notes of spices and underbrush. The sip is fresh and balanced, with soft tannins and a slight savory note on the finish.
