Priorat 'Coranya' Sangenis i Vaqué 2015

Sangenís i Vaqué's Coranya is a red wine made from Cariñena and Garnacha grapes in equal quantities, from Catalonia. Full, persistent and moderately tannic, it is the result of 12 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels, after which it unleashes all its complexity with aromas of currant and plum, hints of earth and leather, and hints of cedar and laurel. To be paired with game and mature, flavoursome cheeses

PRIORAT 'CORANYA' SANGENIS I VAQUÉ 2015 DESCRIPTION

The 'Coranya' Priorat from Celler Sangenís I Vaqué is a red wine that is characterised by its full and enveloping body, as well as its excellent aromatic richness. The oenological approach adopted by the Sangenís-Vaqué family is characterised by a style with an international tendency, defined by the use of fine French and American oak, as in the case of 'Coranya', as well as the harvesting of fully ripe grapes. The appellation 'Coranya' comes from the vineyard where the Garnacha and Cariñena grapes destined for this label come from.

The production of 'Coranya' Sangenís I Vaqué Priorat begins with the meticulous selection of Garnacha and Cariñena grapes used in equivalent percentages. The grapes come from the Coranya vineyard, planted in 1978 by Pere Sangenís and Conxita Vaqué. After harvesting, the grapes are vinified in red, with alcoholic fermentation taking place in contact with the skins in old underground tanks lined with ceramic. Subsequently, the wine is racked into French Allier oak casks for 85% of the mass and American oak for the remaining 15%, both second-passage casks, containers in which the 12-month ageing process takes place. No clarification or filtration is carried out before bottling, and after at least 6 months of resting in glass, the wine is finally ready for release.

The Priorat 'Coranya' from the Spanish winery Sangenís I Vaqué has an intense ruby red colour. Vivid hints of blackcurrant, ripe plum, leather, earth, cedar wood and laurel describe the complex aromatic context. The warmth and enveloping fullness of the palate are well balanced by a pleasant freshness and medium tannin intensity, components that come together in a dry and persistent finish.
