Sangenís i Vaqué's Garbinada is a red wine from Garnacha and Cariñena grapes grown on 'Llicorella' (grey slate) soils in Catalonia. It is vinified and aged in old underground tanks lined with ceramic tiles and manages to achieve a not inconsiderable longevity. Garbinada is round and mineral, and releases aromas of fresh red fruit, spices and earthy hints on the nose. It goes perfectly with first courses with tasty vegetable sauces and grilled meats
The Priorat 'Garbinada' from the Spanish Sangenís I Vaqué estate represents a rather accessible and straightforward interpretation of the Priorat terroir, the product of a traditional blend of the black grape varieties Garnacha and Cariñena, the two most widely grown varieties in the area. The appellation 'Garbinada' comes from the name of the sea breeze that refreshes the vineyards cultivated by Pere Sangenís and Conxita Vaqué in summer, chosen because this bottle manages to evoke precisely the freshness of the wind, while maintaining the characteristic structure of Priorat wines.
'Garbinada' Sangenís I Vaqué Priorat consists of a blend of Garnacha (60%) and Cariñena (40%) grapes, varieties grown in the Porrera area on lorella plots. In the cellar, the grapes are mellowed in old ceramic-lined underground tanks for alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins. In the same type of wine containers, the mass remains to mature for at least 5 months until final bottling and further brief resting in glass. In particular, the exclusion of wood is preparatory to enhancing the wine's freshness.
The 'Garbinada' Priorat from Sangenís I Vaqué has an intense purple-red colour. The nose reveals fruity hints of fresh plums and currants, alternating with more complex notes of black pepper, earth and flint. The flavour is fresh and round, with a medium body and moderate tannins that contribute to the surprising smoothness of the taste. On the finish, the fruity and mineral sensations previously perceived on the nose return. Thanks to its excellent structure and juicy freshness, this Priorat wine demonstrates excellent versatility in pairing, being able to be successfully paired with a wide range of foods, from cured meats to roasted meats, passing through first courses and savoury vegetable-based dishes.
