ROCCA DI FRASSINELLO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Rocca di Frassinello is a true fusion of freshness and elegance, a Supertuscan capable of competing on equal terms with the great Bordeaux wines. Since its first vintage in 2004, Rocca di Frassinello wine has been able to position itself as a reference in its type, and even Christian Le Sommer, the winemaker at the legendary Domaine Baron de Rotschild-Lafite, calls it a wine for great competition, precisely to emphasize its such a persuasive and international style. A reality located in the centre of the Maremma, between Bolgheri and Scansano, the project consists of the union of the experience of Paolo Panerai, founder of the Castellare di Castellina winery, and the owner of Domaine Baron de Rotschild so that the perfect knowledge of the local prince vine, namely Sangioveto was combined with the contribution of international vines such as Merlot, Cabernet, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.

Rocca di Frassinello red is a blend consisting mostly of Sangiovese and equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are located in Gavorrano in the province of Grosseto and rest on medium-textured clay soils. The vineyards that give life to this Supertuscan are only two, namely: the Vigna Vecchia and the Eucalipti vineyard, both cultivated with low yields to favour the quality and concentration of the fruit. Vinification takes place in steel at a controlled temperature, and after the malolactic fermentation takes place, the liquid refines in 80% new barriques for a period of about 14 months. After 11 months of further bottle ageing, the wine is ready to be marketed.

Rocca di Frassinello wine reveals itself in the glass with an intense ruby robe edged with garnet reflections. The nose does not hide its richness made of jammy plum, clove and chocolate, as well as balsamic notes provided by the contribution of Merlot and Cabernet. The sip is a synthesis of power and velvet, textural and perfectly balanced by sweet tannins and great softness. Deep and long lingering, it recalls important pairings such as aged cheeses, game dishes and well-seasoned red meats. Charm and class.
