ROSSO 'CRAZY LUD' MAURER OSZKAR 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Red 'Crazy Lud' from the Serbian winery Maurer Oszkar is a blend wine, made with passion by a vigneron who manages his estate with extreme care. Viticulture in this land has very ancient origins, dating back to the time of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus. Today, the vineyard is managed with great respect for the environment, following the principles of organic farming. The same attention is paid to the work in the cellar, conducted with extreme rigour, with the sole objective of giving the grapes a direct and immediate voice. The end result is a label that expresses very well the primary aromas of high quality grapes and the characteristics of a particularly suitable terroir. An artisanal wine that is the fruit of an ancient family savoir-faire, handed down for no less than five generations.

Crazy Lud' Rosso is produced by Maurer Oszkar, who owns an estate divided into two estates: one located in the Srem area, on Mount Fruska Gora, and the other in the Subotica area. Most of the grapes used to produce the 'Crazy Lud' cuvée come from the latter, which is characterised by soils consisting of a layer of sand about half a metre thick, resting on a clay and limestone loess substrate with the presence of skeleton. This area is also home to a number of prized 100-year-old vines that constitute the winery's precious heritage. The blend consists of Frankovka, Cabernet Sauvignon, Prokupac and Black Muscat. The grapes are fermented with a short maceration on the skins of about 5 days and the wine then matures for a period of 7 months in used oak barrels. The wine is bottled by gravity, without filtration, clarification or the addition of sulphites, in order to preserve its absolute integrity.

The Maurer Oszkar 'Crazy Lud' wine is a red wine with an exuberant personality, characterised by a rich fragrance and crisp fruity aromas. It is a cuvée that well expresses the essential style of the winery, which always strives for maximum purity and authenticity, without oenological mediation. To the eye, it has a luminous ruby red colour. Inviting aromas of wild strawberries, ripe cherries, small dark berries, hints of red-fleshed plums and nuances of graphite rise from the glass. On the palate, it conquers with a lively and rich entry, with a broad and juicy sip, leading into a long and fresh finish.
