SAGRANTINO DI MONTEFALCO OMERO MORETTI 2019 DESCRIPTION

Omero Moretti's Sagrantino di Montefalco is one of the most interesting labels from the entire Montefalco area. It is a wine with a typically artisanal character, with a frank and genuine character, bringing to the fore the true personality of Sagrantino, its strongest and most expressive authenticity. It is a great traditional red, intense and rich, with lively tannins and a remarkable taste persistence. It is a wine with a decided gastronomic vocation, which is able to express its best qualities when tasted in combination with braised beef, seasoned pecorino cheese or game.

Omero Moretti's Sagrantino di Montefalco wine is produced on the San Sabino estate in Giano dell'Umbria. The property covers some 10 hectares, which have been managed under organic farming using only sulfur and copper since the early 1990s. Omero Moretti is a passionate vigneron of his land and his work who tenaciously and consistently pursues his desire to produce authentic, true and expressive wines. His labels are loved precisely for their ability to tell in the glass the best qualities of the grapes and the atmosphere of the land in a limpid and transparent way. The work in the vineyard and in the cellar is guided by a spirit of craftsmanship based on simplicity and the wisdom of farming tradition.

Omero Moretti's Sagrantino comes from grapes grown in vineyards with northeast-facing exposures on soils of a predominantly clay matrix, very suitable for red grapes. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and maceration on the skins for a couple of weeks. Before bottling, the wine ages in first-passage oak tonneaux for at least 12 months and then completes bottle ageing. Sagrantino has a dark ruby red color. On the nose, it releases aromas of dark berry fruits, hints of underbrush, notes of oriental spices, hints of liquorice root, leather and tobacco. The palate has an important structure, with a tannic texture of lively relief and a rich, deep centre of the mouth. The finish is very persistent, with a closure of good freshness. The Moretti family represents the most traditional face of the Montefalco terroir, and because of this, they manage to be one of the best interpreters of Sagrantino.
