Valcerasa di Alice Bonaccorsi is a Sicilian winery located on the slopes of Etna, in the Randazzo area. It is a reality that has its roots in the distant past. The Bonnacorsi family, who still own the estate today, already owned a farm in 1763 in the Piedimonte Etneo area, in Contrada Val Cerasa to be precise, named after the place-name Valle delle ciliegie (Valley of the Cherries), once a fruit that was much cultivated in this area. The tradition of viticulture has been handed down over the centuries from generation to generation, up to Alice, who with her husband Rosario, took over the management of the estate in 2000. The estate has been enlarged with the acquisition of new land located in Contrada Croce Monaci in Randazzo and the management has been oriented towards the production of quality wines.
The northern area of Etna enjoys a special microclimate, very suitable for the cultivation of vines and especially red varieties. The Nebrodi mountains protect the area from disturbances and cold winds from the north. The Mediterranean climate, typical of Sicily, is influenced by the altitude, which makes it cooler and, above all, characterised by considerable temperature differences between hot sunny days and cold nights. The soils are composed of lava flow deposits, they are sandy and stony soils with little organic substance and rich in mineral elements. A very special habitat, in which the indigenous grape varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante have adapted very well.
The estate's vineyards are located at an altitude of between 700 and 900 metres above sea level. The 20 hectares of the property are divided into several parcels, located within the municipality of Randazzo, in one of the most prized and renowned areas of the Etna appellation. The vines are bush-trained, according to the most ancient custom of the area, which requires manual work, but guarantees better quality grapes. Agronomic management is very attentive to the environment and follows the principles of organic farming, using only sulphur and copper, so as to respect the ecosystem and favour natural biodiversity.
