Aglianico 'Drogone' Cantina Giardino 2019

The Aglianico  "Drogone" is a rustic red wine produced in Campania, a typical and authentic expression of the heart of Irpinia. The olfactory boquet offers autumnal sensations with hints of Mediterranean scrub, ripe red fruit and echoes of tobacco leaves and wet earth. The taste is fresh and full of substance, very drinkable and to be paired with local first courses with meat sauce, main courses of meat or mature cheeses

AGLIANICO 'DROGONE' CANTINA GIARDINO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Cantina Giardino's Drogone is a vibrant and energetic expression of Aglianico and one of Italy's most original interpretations. Cantina Giardino was born from a project of revalorisation and friendship: the revalorisation of territory among the most vocated for viticulture, such as Irpino, and the friendship of six people who have given life to this splendid reality, availing themselves of the advice of the talented oenologist Antonio Di Gruttola. The credo adopted is one and very simple: leave the native vines free to express themselves without manipulation. Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco each bottle a different and, therefore, new story. Wines to be approached calmly given their complexity, but endowed with a unique personality.

Rosso Drogone has produced from pure Aglianico grapes between 70 and 80 years old vines. The vinification phases follow the usual procedure adopted by the winery, so a strictly manual harvest is followed by the transportation of the bunches to the cellar and the start of fermentation, which takes place spontaneously, without the inoculation of yeasts. Both fermentation and maceration occur in large wooden barrels. The liquid is matured for 3 years in large casks and one and a half years in glass. No clarification or filtration, nor the addition of sulphur at bottling.

The Drogone wine bathes the glass with its compact, almost impenetrable ruby-red colour. The nose is extremely typical and genuine, like a thoroughbred Aglianico, and offers earth, ripe plum, black pepper and leather in succession. Austerity and breadth in one of its highest expressions. The slight volatile sensation is integrated and plays the role of best conveying every nuance of the wine. The sip is vibrant, driven by an overflowing freshness and tannin that punctuates the rhythm of the sip. Full and textural, it echoes many of the sensations perceived on the nose and fades to a very long persistence. A valid ally of the everyday table, it gives its best on red meats and mature cheeses. Vital.
