The Aglianico del Vulture "Serpara" is a powerful, full-bodied red wine, born from a small vineyard with very old vines, made warm and velvety by a long aging in Allier barriques
Aglianico del Vulture 'Serpara' Terra degli Svevi is a warm and powerful red wine, the result of the work and passion of an important winery in Lucania that invests everything in the excellence of Aglianico. The name chosen for this wine reveals the origin of the grapes from which it is produced: a small cru of just 6 hectares called 'Serpara,' meaning 'place of the snakes,' given the strong sun exposure and mild climate, even in winter. Located at an altitude of about 550 meters in the municipality of Maschito, half of this vineyard is occupied by vines that are at least 40 years old and rest on soil of volcanic origin.
The best grapes from the Serpara vineyard give rise to this Aglianico del Vulture. The Aglianico clusters, harvested at the end of October, are vinified in purity with pre-fermentation maceration of 10 days and natural fermentation of 7/10 days. Once the vinification process is finished, the wine matures in French Allier barriques for a period varying between 12 and 24 months, depending on the age of the wood.
Aglianico del Vulture "Serpara" reveals its breadth and depth starting with a bouquet that pits hints of bitter cherry, aromatic herbs and distant memories of vanilla and thyme. The taste reveals all its great personality, with an imperious and powerful attack and a silky but not invasive tannic texture. A peculiar characteristic of "Serpara" is the slight hint of chocolate that precedes the long creamy finish due to the old age of the vines and the microclimate suited to the cultivation of this great southern red.
