ALTA LANGA EXTRA BRUT 'MILLESIMATO' MAGNUM MARCALBERTO 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Alta Langa Millesimato Extra Brut from the Piedmontese sparkling wine house Marcalberto is the result of the encounter between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, making it a fine expression of a single vintage. With production inspired by the great Champagnes, the Marcalberto winery has been producing high-quality sparkling wines since 1996, the year the estate was founded. Among the factors that determine the high level of these Metodo Classico wines is the use of the Coquard 'Marmonnier' press, used precisely in Champagne for the gentle pressing of the grapes, as well as the skilful use of wood, which is essential to enhance the expression of the sparkling wine.

The Millesimato Extra Brut Alta Langa Marcalberto comes from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes cultivated on soils characterised by a high presence of marl and limestone. Following the harvest, which takes place in the last ten days of August, the grapes are vinified separately through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation without skin contact. Ageing of the base wine lasts about 7 months and takes place in used wooden barrels, with weekly batonnage. This is followed by bottle fermentation according to the Metodo Classico, combined with at least 36 months of ageing on the lees before disgorging and final dosage as Extra Brut, at 3.5 g/l residual sugar. The entire process then excludes the use of clarification or filtration.

Marcalberto Metodo Classico Alta Langa Extra Brut Millesimato is an intense straw yellow colour with golden hues and a fine, persistent effervescence. The nose reveals inviting notes of yellow-fleshed fruit, honey, toasted nuts and freshly baked bread. Structured, dry and enveloping on the palate, the pleasant freshness lending liveliness to the progression and balancing the creamy softness of the bubbles.
