ARBIS ROS BORGO SAN DANIELE 2018 DESCRIPTION

Borgo San Daniele presents Arbis Ros, a  structured and characterful red wine born of a sustainable production philosophy aimed at enhancing the Friulian wine territory. It is a pure expression of Pignolo, a native black grape variety whose origins lie in the Rosazzo area in the province of Udine. At the beginning of the last century, this grape experienced a long period of crisis due to widespread disinterest on the part of local producers, which threatened to cause its extinction. However, in the 1980s, Pignolo made a comeback, imposing itself as one of the most prized red grapes on the entire Friuli ampelographic platform. The name "Arbis" comes from the Friulian dialect and means "grasses," in reference to the multitude of plant species that populate the area and to the fact that all the inter-rows of the Borgo San Daniele vineyards are spontaneously grassed.

Borgo San Daniele's Arbis Ros is 100% Pignolo cultivated following the dictates of biodynamic agriculture on soils rich in limestone and gravel, located in the Ziris locality in the municipality of Cormons. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation is traditional and is accompanied by 15 days of maceration on the skins. The ensuing period of maturation takes place in oak barrels of different capacities for 12 months, followed by long ageing in the bottle.

Borgo San Daniele Arbis Ros is deep ruby red in colour. Wide and varied is the olfactory panorama, described by hints of small red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and currant, enriched by balsamic and spicy descriptors. The richness is confirmed on the palate, where the important and full structure coexists with lively freshness and integrated and silky tannins. Long and characteristic spicy and fruity epilogue.
