BARBARESCO ALBINO ROCCA 2019 DESCRIPTION

Albino Rocca's Barbaresco is the label of tradition, the one that best represents the winery's style and the most ancient customs of the territory of the Langhe. Before an awareness of Burgundy origins, based on the valorization of crus and individual vineyards, very often producers used to blend grapes from various estate vineyards, with often different and complementary characteristics, to create a single harmonious and balanced wine. The bottle has preserved this custom and expresses in an almost didactic way the character of the Nebbiolo of the Barbaresco area, elegant, refined and very pleasant tasting.

Albino Rocca's Barbaresco red wine is the result of a long tradition. The Rocca family has been growing vines in the Langhe since the 1940s, first selling the grapes and then beginning to bottle their own, with a desire to enhance the estate. The wine is the fruit of grapes harvested from the youngest vineyards on the property, about 15 to 20 years old, cultivated in the communal territories of Barbaresco, Neive, S. Rocco Seno d'Elvio, located at an altitude between 240 and 310 meters above sea level, with exposures facing south, southeast and southwest. The soils vary slightly from plot to plot, although they have a common matrix characterized by limestone-clay marls, with the presence of sands and sandstones. At the end of fermentation, with classic maceration on the skins, the wine matures for at least 20 months in German and Austrian oak barrels and then completes bottle ageing.

The Barbaresco wine made by Albino Rocca is proposed as a true synthesis of the best qualities of the appellation and is the ideal label for those who wish to approach this territory in order to understand its general characters before delving into the facets of the various crus. To the eye, it sports a brilliant ruby red with light garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is of remarkable finesse, with refined scents of dried flowers and violets, aromas of red berries, raspberry, morello cherry, hints of underbrush, liquorice root, medicinal herbs and delicate spicy nuances. The palate has a harmonious, flowing character, with ripe, velvety tannins and complex, elegant aromas, anticipating a long, fresh and savoury finish.
