BARBARESCO CASTELLO DI VERDUNO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Cantine di Castello di Verduno's Barbaresco comes from one of the most beautiful and vocated areas for the production of exceptional red wines of refined quality. The Bianco and Burlotto families have intertwined their destinies since the time of King Charles Albert of Savoy, sharing a passion for the world of viticulture and, in particular, for the Nebbiolo grape variety. In 1950, Giovanni Battista Burlotto returned from Eritrea and decided to expand the family business, beginning to build a reality where they could have guests stay and offer a complete food and wine experience. Today Mr. and Mrs. Franco Bianco and Gabriella Burlotto successfully run the business, always looking to the future and new projects.

The pure Nebbiolo grapes in Cantine di Castello di Verduno's Barbaresco come from vineyards all located in Barbaresco. The soil is mainly composed of white soil with high percentages of limestone-clay content called "Marne di Sant'Agata" for elegant wines with character. The climate is continental, with sultry, hot summers and cold winters, often affected by snowfall. The harvest is conducted manually, and the best bunches are selected and deposited in boxes; in the cellar, maceration on the skins with manual punching down takes place for about 20 days in steel. Ages 18 months in barrels and 3 months in steel; rests 15 months in bottle.

To the eye, Cantine di Castello di Verduno's Barbaresco appears deep ruby red with bright highlights; the nose has notes of ripe red-fleshed fruit and summer flowers with slight hints of spice on the finish. In the mouth, it is pleasantly tannic, elegant and enveloping, with good persistence on the finish to encourage drinking. It pairs perfectly with seasonal vegetable dishes, pasta dishes dressed with elaborate sauces, and stewed cuts of red meat; also interesting with blue cheeses made from cow's milk for a delicious end to a meal. Excellent for formal occasions to celebrate important work milestones or family anniversaries, tasting a product that is the fruit of a land that yields exceptional fruit.
