Barbaresco 'Rio Sordo' Musso 2020

Barbaresco 'Rio Sordo' from Piedmont winery Musso is an intense and fragrant red wine, the result of careful grape selection in the vineyard and long aging in Slavonian oak barrels. Full, warm and enveloping, characterized by soft aromas of ripe red fruit and sweet spices, 'Rio Sordo' lends itself perfectly to be paired with red meat and game dishes, but at the same time it can be an excellent meditation wine

BARBARESCO 'RIO SORDO' MUSSO 2020 DESCRIPTION

Musso's 'Rio Sordo' Barbaresco constitutes an enveloping and mature interpretation of one of Italy's most prestigious appellations. As much as 40 percent of Musso winery's total production is made up of Barbaresco, interpreted through three different declinations: two crus, namely 'Pora' and precisely 'Rio Sordo,' and a "classic," resulting from a blend of several vineyards. The Rio Sordo Additional Geographical Mention is located in the southern end of Barbaresco, the municipality where the estate is based, and comprises 25 hectares in total.

Musso 'Rio Sordo' Barbaresco is a pure Nebbiolo from vineyards resting on compact soils characterized by a high presence of limestone and a good amount of clay. The rows face southwest and are at an altitude of 250 to 300 meters above sea level. Once the grapes have reached the ideal degree of ripeness, they are harvested by hand and the grapes are carefully sorted, then destemmed and crushed. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks with 18-20 days of maceration on the skins, accompanied by daily pumping over. Next, the mass is placed in 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for the first 12 months of maturation, followed by an additional 6 months of rest in 20-hectoliter barrels. Finally, after 7-8 months of bottle aging, the wine is ready for marketing.

Musso Barbaresco 'Rio Sordo' is deep garnet red in color with a ruby core. The olfactory range is defined by hints of red fruits, apricot and dried flowers, enriched by elegant spicy notes of pink pepper, cinnamon and tobacco. In the mouth it is full, enveloping and dry, with a pleasant fresh-sappy verve and harmonious tannic texture. Valuable final persistence on the spicy and fruity sensations perceived on the nose.
