Fratelli Alessandria’s Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Priorà" is produced with a variety that, typically, expresses lighter wines in a land of great reds, but this version expresses austerity, character and longevity. To the nose it expresses varietal characters of cherry and red flowers, as well as intriguing spicy notes resulting from aging. To the palate it is intense, very fresh and with an extremely smooth sip, but with a remarkable structure. Try it with a meat dish, such as a braised or sausage cooked in wine

Fratelli Alessandria's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Priorà' represents a full-bodied expression of this popular Piedmontese variety. The Fratelli Alessandria winery ranks among the viticultural excellences of the Langhe, a noble oenological territory that the Alessandria family has been enhancing since 1870 through native grape varieties such as Pelaverga, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Favorita. Barbera 'Priorà,' inaugurated with the 2000 vintage, comes from a selection of grapes from particularly well-exposed vineyards located within the municipalities of Verduno and Monforte. The Piedmontese dialect term "priorà," the name of this label, translates to "priorà."
Fratelli Alessandria Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Priorà' is a 100% Barbera from the Rocche dell'Olmo and Semolino vineyards, located in Verduno and the Gramolere parcel in Monforte. The vines, about 35 years old, rest on medium-textured limestone soils rich in silt and sand, located between 310 and 450 meters above sea level. The clusters are hand-picked and then mellowed in steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, followed by ageing for 12 to 14 months in small French oak barrels and large French or Slavonian oak barrels. After an additional 4 months of ageing between steel and bottle, the wine is ready for release.
'Priorà' Barbera d'Alba Superiore Fratelli Alessandria is dark ruby red in color and concentrated. The olfactory range expresses ample and vivid scents of morello cherry, violet and berries, enhanced by delicate spicy hints of cinnamon and pepper. Intense, round, fresh impact on the palate, with a fine and well-integrated tannic texture. The long finish insists on enveloping fruity and spicy sensations consistent with the nose.
