Nizza "La Crena" is a Barbera produced by Vietti, an illustrious name from the Castiglione Falletto area. The label represents a very interesting version of the famous Piedmontese grape variety, far from the idea of a simple everyday wine. The quality of the grapes, sourced from historic vineyards of the estate and long ageing in wood, give a harmonious and complex red wine, which allows us to discover the nobler face of the grape variety. The exuberance of the fruit and the incisive freshness are toned down and become elements of a broader, softer and more enveloping aromatic palette, which conquers by its richness and intensity.
Barbera Nizza "La Crena" was born in one of Langhe's historic wineries. Since the early 1900s, Vietti has produced great wines in the sign of the best Piedmontese tradition. Barbera vines are grown in the La Crena area, which is located in the municipality of Agliano Terme. These are old vineyards of particular value, about 6 hectares in size, which still retain vines planted in the 1930s on soil consisting mainly of silt and clay. The sunny south-facing exposure ensures perfect grapes ripening, which arrives at harvest with very rich aromas. The best bunches are sent to fermentation in open stainless steel vats, with maceration on the skins and periodic délestage. The wine matures for 18 months, partly in barrique, partly in large barrels and partly in steel, so that the contribution of wood is not too intrusive.
Vietti's Nizza wine "La Crena" is an interpretation of Barbera that brings out its best expressive qualities. It is a red of fine stuff, perfect to pair with first courses with meat and game ragout or with roasted red meats. In the glass, it is dark ruby red in colour with luminous reflections. The olfactory picture is rich and ripe, with aromas of cherry, blackberry, black cherry, small dark berry fruits, soft aromas of oriental spices, lightly toasted hints of roasting and hints of noble woods. The palate is intense, with evolved tannins and concentrated fruit, accompanied by elegant evolutionary notes, which enrich the flavour spectrum. The sip is long and persistent, with a fresh and balanced finish, returning to pleasant spicy sensations.
