BARBERA D'ALBA SUPERIORE 'BRUA' MUSSO 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Brua' constitutes a bottle with an eloquent and generous spirit produced by the Langa-based winery Musso. This label comes from a selection of grapes from the estate's oldest Barbera vineyard, located in the cru of Rio Sordo, within the commune of Barbaresco. Although the best areas and exposures in the Langhe are traditionally reserved for Nebbiolo, Barbera has shown that if properly cultivated and processed it can give exceptional results, as in the case of 'Brua'.

Musso Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Brua' is produced with only Barbera grapes grown on predominantly calcareous soils characterized by the presence of layers of clay and located between 240 and 270 meters above sea level. When the berries have reached full ripeness, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by destemming and soft crushing of the grapes. The must thus obtained is conveyed into stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, with several days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent aging phase, on the other hand, takes place between 20-hectoliter oak barrels and 500-liter tonneaux for a total period of 24 months. After bottling, the wine is left to rest for a few more months before final release.

To the eye, Musso's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Brua' exhibits a dark, consistent ruby red coat with purple hues. The aromatic spectrum presents ethereal, intense and fruity aromas of jammy red and black fruits, balsamic herbs and licorice, enhanced by toasted and sweet spice flavors. The taste is rich and enveloping, round and intense, with good alcohol balanced by freshness and soft tannins.
