Ettore Germano's Barbera d'Alba is an example of how the Langhe is not just about Nebbiolo. The vines were planted over 50 years ago by the winery's founder in person, in very suitable soil with a south/south-east exposure, the best possible in the Langhe, to produce high quality reds. Fresh hints of red fruit emerge on the nose, then plum and blackberry, while in the mouth it is very fresh and velvety, with remarkable persistence. An excellent red, great company on the table
Ettore Germano's Barbera d'Alba is a typically fresh and fruity interpretation of the grape variety, presented in a youthful and lively guise, thanks also to the fact that it is made entirely in steel. The Germano family's activity is strongly rooted in the Langhe tradition, a tradition carried on for several generations and based on three cornerstones: passion, work and respect for the land. The soul of the estate is Sergio Germano, Ettore's son, who personally supervises all stages of the production process, from the vineyard to the finished bottle.
Ettore Germano Barbera d'Alba is produced using only Barbera grapes cultivated on land characterised by a high presence of marl, located at an altitude between 300 and 400 metres above sea level with south-eastern exposure. Following the harvest, which is carried out by hand in crates, the grapes undergo destemming and crushing, with subsequent alcoholic fermentation that takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 25 °C, accompanied by 7-8 days of maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out in stainless steel and maturation lasts a few months before final bottling.
To the eye, Ettore Germano's Barbera d'Alba shows a dark ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose denotes aromas of fresh fruit, such as blackberry, morello cherry and plum, enriched by balsamic nuances and sweet floral hints of violet. The entry on the palate is full-bodied and velvety, well supported by intense freshness and soft tannins, elements that accompany the long fruity finish. This Barbera is the ideal accompaniment to platters of medium-aged cheeses and cured meats, as well as to savoury pies and first courses that are not overly structured.
