BAROLO 'AEROPLANSERVAJ' DOMENICO CLERICO 2019 DESCRIPTION

The Barolo 'Aeroplanservaj' is a precious and refined label elaborated by renowned modernist winemaker Domenico Clerico. This bottle was born in 2006 out of Domenico's desire to try his hand at new challenges, a desire that led the producer to make a Barolo in Serralunga d'Alba, an area bordering the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, the estate's headquarters. "Aeroplanservaj" represents an expression from the Piedmontese dialect meaning "wild aeroplane," a nickname by which Domenico was usually called by his father, and each year the label is decorated with different illustrations that recall flight.

Domenico Clerico Barolo 'Aeroplanservaj' originates from only Nebbiolo planted in 1994 within the Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva of Baudana in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. The exposure is west and southwest, the altitude is around 340 meters above sea level and the soil, made up of fossil Marne di Sant'Agata, has a silty texture, particularly rich in limestone. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by 30 days of maceration on the skins, at the end of which the wine is racked off and then aged for 26-36 months in oak barriques, 80 percent new and 20 percent second-passage. After a further period of rest in the bottle, the wine is finally ready for marketing.

Domenico Clerico's Barolo 'Aeroplanservaj' is deep garnet red in color. The articulate and refined olfactory panorama evokes enveloping scents of fruit under spirits, aromatic herbs and flowers, enhanced by widespread spicy and balsamic nuances. The robust and elegant sip shows important intensity, tantalizing fresh-sappy component and ripe tannins, qualities that prelude the very long mineral and spicy finish.
