BAROLO 'PERCRISTINA' DOMENICO CLERICO 2014 DESCRIPTION

Domenico Clerico's Barolo "Percristina" originates in the Monforte d'Alba slope, known for being able to give grapes of power and structure. The Barolos that originate from this area are based on flavour depth and intensity. They are defined by greater vigour than those from the La Morra side, and for this reason, throughout history, they have earned the appellation 'male Barolo.' "Percristina" is the result of work that, from the very beginning, has been directed to the enhancement of the Langhe territory and its grapes. Domenico Clerico believed deeply in this land, so much so that he decided to evolve the family business that, until then, was aimed at selling grapes. Domenico knew the potential of the land-the same potential that today is embodied in the finesse of his wines.

"Percristina" Barolo by Domenico Clerico comes from the Mosconni cru, located near the town of Monforte d'Alba at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level. The soil of this vineyard is composed of a clay profile with a small amount of sand. It was planted in 1955, but it was 40 years later that it became the property of the Clerico family. The vines that populate it can boast, therefore, of an age that exceeds 60 years and offers a valuable degree of complexity, both structural and aromatic. The maceration phase of the grapes in contact with their skins lasts quite a long time, approaching 30 days. This is followed by 3 years of ageing inside barriques, 80% new and 20% second-passage. A further 24 months of maturation in 50-hl barrels chisel out the character of this Barolo, which can then be put on the market.

Domenico Clerico Barolo "Percristina" has a deep garnet red color. Its bouquet is reminiscent of small red fruits and cherries under spirits, closing in a finish of violets and rose petals. On the palate, it announces itself in all the power of the Barolo that it is, made of muscle, body, intensity and much charm. A sip in homage to the immense gifts of the land of Langa.
