BAROLO 'VILLERO' GIUSEPPE MASCARELLO 2016 DESCRIPTION

Barolo "Villero" provides an excellent presentation of the Mascarello style: pure class. A winery founded back in the 1800s, today, it is an icon in Barolo winemaking. It is located in Castiglione Falletto, an area from which Nebbiolo grapes traditionally originate, recognizable for their elegance and expressive finesse. It tells of the gentle, noble, delicate and ethereal side of Barolo, which, however, does not conceal the firm and decisive trait of its unshakable personality. A great wine generated by a great signature, a guarantee of quality and tradition.

"Villero" by Giuseppe Mascarello comes from the Cru of the same name, located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. The soil here is clayey-sandy and calcareous, defined by its richness in grey marls, brown clays and sands of marine origin. This vineyard became the property of the Mascarello family in 1985, and the Nebbiolo vines were planted a few years later, in 1988. Harvesting takes place after careful selection of the grapes. The fermentation phase follows traditional procedures and has a duration ranging from 16 to 22 days. Ageing can also be said to be traditional, as it takes place in Slavonian oak barrels of intermediate capacity. Here the "Villero" ages for a period of about 30 months, allowing the bottle to be marketed after 4 years from the harvest.

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo's "Villero" presents, to the eye, a very fine garnet red colour. The olfactory imprint confirms the delicate and fine character of the colour, settling on red fruit and floral notes of violet and wild rose, set against a fresh spicy background. In the mouth, it goes on to assert its innate class again and balances the full body with chiselled freshness and savoriness. Echoes of its personality emerge in the mouth finish, in a perfect taste-olfactory correspondence and an intense aftertaste. Chapeau.
