Bianco 'Juhfark' Bott Frigyes 2020

White 'Juhfark' Bott Frigyes is a white wine produced in Slovakia, on the banks of the Danube on the Hungarian border. It is made from Juhfark, a Hungarian varietal whose name stands for "sheep's tail," given the elongated shape of the cluster. On the sip it is deep, mineral and saline, supported by great acidity, while notes of citrus, black tea and mint stand out on the nose: a curious wine from an unusual varietal, the work of a winery that wants to introduce the world to the beauty and great winemaking potential of the Muzla Hills

BIANCO 'JUHFARK' BOTT FRIGYES 2020 DESCRIPTION

The White 'Juhfark' constitutes a peculiarly broad and eloquent Slovak expression made by the artisanal Bott Frigyes estate. Juhfark is a white grape variety of Hungarian origin whose name translates to "sheep's tail," a reference to the characteristic cylindrical, elongated shape of the clusters. It is a grape variety that strongly "absorbs" the attributes of the land where it is grown and has found an exceptional habitat in the volcanic area of Muszla. Through a pure and genuine approach, Bott Frigyes thus aims to bring out the most sincere character of the territory and the grape variety.

Bott Frigyes White 'Juhfark' is made from only grapes of the variety of the same name grown in accordance with biodynamic principles on soils formed by clay on volcanic rock substrate, at an altitude of about 250 meters. Following the harvest, the grapes are placed in open tanks for a week following the so-called "Hamburger method," which consists of alternating layers of bunches crushed with feet, whole bunches and destemmed grapes. Alcoholic fermentation is needed spontaneously thanks only to the intervention of indigenous yeasts, and then the wine is racked into 500-liter Hungarian oak barrels for the 10-month maturation phase on fine lees. Throughout the process, the mass does not undergo any clarification or filtration.

On visual inspection, Bott Frigyes' White 'Juhfark' shows a bright straw yellow color. The nose has fresh citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon, aromas of black tea and delicate herbaceous nuances reminiscent of mint. In the mouth it is creamy and enveloping, also characterized by lashings of freshness and long savory-mineral persistence.
