Cantina Varvaglione's Marfi is a white wine that combines the freshness of Sauvignon with the softness of Verdeca. From the meeting of these two grapes grown on the plains near Leporano, comes this wine with its straw-yellow colour and greenish reflections. Its aromatic complexity is revealed with notes of lemon, lime and wild fennel, while on the palate it is fresh, balanced and persistent. Perfect with raw seafood and fresh cheeses, Marfi is an explosion of elegance and territoriality
The 'Marfi' Bianco signed Varvaglione is a label that celebrates theoenological encounter between Apulia and France, in particular between the Verdeca grape, indigenous to the Apulian territory, and Sauvignon Blanc, one of the most widespread international grape varieties. The name 'Marfi' is a dedication to Marzia Maria Filomena, eldest daughter of the owner Cosimo Varvaglione, nicknamed 'Marfi'. Today Marzia is at the commercial head of the family winery, committed to developing and promoting the image of Varvaglione 1921 in the world thanks to her fresh and modern vision. Born as a pure Verdeca, it was Marzia who wanted to add a percentage of Sauvignon Blanc, his favourite white grape variety, in the blend of 'Marfi' in order to give it a more international touch.
Varvaglione 'Marfi' Bianco consists of a blend of Verdeca and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in white by soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14 °C. Again in steel containers, the wine matures for a few months until final bottling and after a further short rest in the bottle, it is finally ready for release.
The Bianco 'Marfi' from the Apulian Varvaglione estate has a clear straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose unfolds on pleasant citric hints of lemon and lime, enhanced by floral aromas and fresh hints of wild fennel. The sip reveals an excellent balance between the soft body of the Verdeca and the marked freshness of the Sauvignon Blanc, with a pleasant persistence at the end. Precisely because of this balance, the Bianco 'Marfi' is endowed with excellent versatility at the table, being able to accompany both seafood and land-based cuisine.
