Having always been an historical brand-name of Bolgheri for the production of structured red wines featuring a wide longevity, Grattamacco estate was born in 1977, atop a hill overlooking the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, 100 meters above the sea level. This strategic location ensures to the 14-hectares vineyard a mild and dry climate, with significant temperature changes especially at the end of summer that can provide a perfect cycle of maturation of the grapes produced here. The agronomic criteria adopted in the vineyard follow practices of organic farming, with low yields per hectare, while the high average age of the vines (25 years) provides an aromatic development of the grapes of great depth. These are the basic prerequisites for the production of Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Grattamacco: fully acclimated on the clay-limestone soils of Bolgheri and only treated with manual procedures in the field, the grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese that flow into this Bolgheri Superiore by Grattamacco undergo alcoholic fermentation in conical wooden vats, while malolactic fermentation coincides with a long aging in oak barrels, capable of giving softness and aromatic sharpness. Consistency, complexity and adherence to the terroir typicity are the basic requirements of this geat red from Bolgheri, true key-wine of Grattamacco's production.
