Chateau De Reignac's Bordeaux Superieur Grand Vin is a wine we report with pleasure, not least because of its track record. In fact, in several blind tastings, it has also ranked ahead of more emblazoned and prestigious bottles from Bordeaux. Now, on the effectiveness of so-called blind testing, there would be much to say, but as far as our discourse is concerned, we would like to emphasize how this wine turns out organoleptically stupefying and very interesting, especially from the price point of view!
The winery obtains this wine from 40-year-old vines of Merlot, respectively, plus smaller percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are rooted in the two sides of the Bordeaux terroir on clay and limestone soils with gravelly and chalky incursions. Grapes are selected in the vineyard through two steps. In the winery, the winemaking stages are carried out under the watchful eye of Michel Rolland and begin with the crushing and destemming of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation in small steel tanks and malolactic fermentation in barrels. Ageing takes place on fine lees, with frequent bâtonnage always inside barriques for a period of 19 months.
The Bordeaux Superieur Grand Vin is compact ruby red in colour to the eye. The nose expresses itself on elegant notes of underbrush fruits, cherry jam, coffee beans and vanilla notes over light spice nuances. On the palate, it retains vivid fruit, a beautiful structure, with a delicate and soft mouthfeel, with remarkable persistence. Notable!
