Tenuta Le Potazzine's Brunello di Montalcino is produced in Montalcino, home of structured, high quality reds. The name of the winery in the local dialect indicates the 'cinciallegre', lively little birds, a term often used to refer to little girls. The Potazzine are Viola and Sofia Gorelli, daughters of Gigliola Giannetti, all three involved in the business. The latter was established in 1993 and right from the start the work has been assisted by Giuseppe, an agricultural expert and oenologist who follows in detail all the phases of growth in the vineyard of the plants and processing in the cellar, choosing to respect nature and the ecosystem surrounding the vineyards.
The grapes of Tenuta Le Potazzine's Brunello di Montalcino grow in about 5 hectares of vineyards at an altitude of about 500 metres above sea level and the plants have an average age of about 14 years. The chosen cultivation regime is organic and between the rows the density is about 6 thousand vines per hectare, in order to respect the natural development of the raw material. The soil is rich in limestone mixed with skeleton, consisting of marl schist and alberese, for a structured final product with character. Harvesting is conducted manually; in the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. There are long macerations on the skins and ageing in Slavonian oak barrels for 40 months.
To the eye, the Brunello di Montalcino of Tenuta Le Potazzine is a luminous garnet red colour with brilliant reflections; the bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of black berry fruits such as blackberry that combine with notes of rose, officinal herbs, tobacco, musk and liquorice; in the mouth it is elegant, enveloping and fine, with vibrant minerality and good persistence on the finish that recalls goblet after goblet. It goes perfectly with grilled meat dishes, game and first courses with rich and tasty sauces. Perfect to accompany the table at family celebrations or for convivial evenings in the company of relaxing music.
