Brunello di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto 2018

The Brunello di Montalcino from the Poggio di Sotto estate is an elegant and fine red wine. Very low yield per hectare and organic management in the vineyard deliver a wine with a crisp intertwining of scents of underbrush, humus, flowers, sweet spice and leather against a Mediterranean background. Refined and austere on the palate, with great persistence and velvety tannins. Ace picker!

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO POGGIO DI SOTTO 2018 DESCRIPTION

Poggio di Sotto is one of the great names of Brunello di Montalcino. It is history and tradition, classicism and unmistakable style. It is one of the most elegant guises of Sangiovese, an indigenous Tuscan grape that has become known worldwide for its fascinating and noble character. It originates near the area of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the province of Siena, from vineyards located at altitudes ranging from 200 to 450 meters above sea level. In the Brunello of Poggio di Sotto, there is all the eloquent expressiveness of the local Sangiovese, and there is also much naturalness, also emphasized by choice of production methods that faithfully follow tradition.

Poggio di Sotto's Brunello di Montalcino is the clearest and most limpid purity of Sangiovese. The grapes are selected with extreme and rigorous care and transported to the winery, where vinification occurs inside wooden vats. As per tradition, the maceration phase with the skins is very long, and fermentations start spontaneously. Maturation lasts about 48 months in large oak barrels and is followed by a further period of at least 8 months of bottle ageing.

Poggio di Sotto Brunello has a beautiful, luminous ruby red colour. Its bouquet is complex and fascinating, articulated in hints of ripe and jammy dark fruit, tobacco, earth and vegetal traces, all perfectly set in a spicy texture. The palate shows noticeable but well-managed tannins that are integrated with a fleshy and enveloping structure. The fresh and savoury profile punctuates the elegance and longevity of this gentleman, who carries with him a precious casket filled with stories to tell.
